Next Generation News Follow the news of the offspring of the class of 70-71 ! Here's an update of every player known about, who has been on the books of a club this season.
See Sons and Daughters December News: Update news This is news generally found doing the Winter 2007/08 update: Neil Cartwright: - The following is reported on the Hinkley United website. A double fracture of his right leg means Neil will be out until next season at the earliest. Because of his injury he also saw the clubs record appearance title taken away by Jamie Lenton. Stephen Clemence: Moved to Leicester City from Birmingham City on 17 July 2007 and has featured regularly in the team. Sam Shilton: Moved from Hinkley United to League rivals Kettering Town, managed by Mark Cooper on 7 December 2007. Mark Turner: Moved to Solihull Borough which merged with Moor Green to form Solihull Moors, and all Borough players have moved on. Wikipedia reports Mark is back with Tamworth but this is not confirmed by the Official site's squad listing. Having been released by Yeovil at the end of the 2006-07 season there followed a short stint under Brian Talbot at Maltese champions Marsaxlokk which included an appearance in a Champions League qualifier against FK Sarajevo; however Webb soon returned to England to sign for AFC Wimbledon on July 23, 2007, ending the club's long search for a "target man".
November News: 21 November 1) Steffen Iversen wins his 72nd cap for Norway in an away victory against Malta in the European Championship qualifier played at Valetta. Steffen scores his first ever hat-trick in international football in the 4-1 win, taking his tally up to 19 for his country. His father Odd also scored 19 goals for Norway and they are equal 9th in the list of all time top goalscorers. Steffen is 10th in the all time appearances list also. In spite of this, Norway faikled to qualify for Euro 2008, Turkey take their place. 2) Frank Lampard wins his 60th cap for England in the one of this century's most important match for the country so far. Played at Wembley v Croatia, England need just a draw to qualify for Euro 2008, and managed to go 2-0 down after 14 minutes, thanks in part to Scott Carson's goalkeeping error in only his second match for England which I am guessing will become an iconic image! David Beckham in his 99th game helped inspire a revival begun by Frank's 56th minute penalty to pull it back to 2-1, his 14th goal for his country. Crouch pulled it level on 65 minutes, but Croatia went 3-2 up on 77 minutes and England had failed to qualify for Championship for the first time since the early 90s. Suddenly we were all reminded why it was England had turned to a non-English manager the last time round. Steve McLaren was quickly dispatched from his post and the stage was set for the return to both 1) a non-English manager, and 2) a 1970-71 Player as an England manager!!! 17 November 1) Frank Lampard wins his 59th England cap and Michael Owen his 88th in the pointless friendly against Austria in Vienna prior to England's crucial European Championship qualifier v Croatia. It finished as a 1-0 win but Michael was injured in the 34th minute of the match so would be another first teamer unavailable for the Wembley decider. 2) Steffen Iversen wins his 71st cap for Norway in a 2-1 home defeat in the European Championship qualifier v Turkey played in Oslo. The defeat severly upset Norway's chances of qualifying. 3) Tobias Linderoth who played in Sweden's last match v Northern Ireland winning his73rd cap (a 1-1 draw on 17 October 2007) is not named for the qualifiers against Spain and Latvia. Sweden succeed in qualifying for Euro 2008. Players no longer featured from Winter 2007/8: Ørjan Berg: son of Harold Berg (ADO). Last club Rosenborg (Norway). Tippeligaen (Eliteserien).
